Embracing the Magic of Solitude *and* Community - For Introverts and Rebel Souls

I have often wondered about the people who are able to be social bees and party like a rockstar for days yet still somehow get whatever they need done like write and publish a book!

In some ways they have a big advantage. They are the ones who are often prioritized at the workplace for promotions, considered to be leaders, and can be more agile in the outer realms of business overall.

But the advantages of being on the more introverted and sensitive side are HUGE as well - including the ability to FEEL and translate those feelings into creative expression to serve society. We introvert creatives are the ones who are consistently serving and inspiring others. We are in a powerful support role to be the foundation for everything else to flow and grow. Very much like the water.

We also provide an example for others to lead from within, to take time for self care and to listen to what is really going on inside their hearts.

As an introvert creative myself, I have often found myself cringing in fear or distaste about having to do basic practical stuff like calling the doctor’s office, or small-talk with a service provider I am working with, or simply show up to write every day on a set schedule.

This can be a disadvantage if I end up putting things off unnecessarily - they just build up and haunt me.

But here's what I have found that helps...

Simply hold it gently, bringing Awareness and Compassion around this tendency. This allows me to come to terms with how I am—instead of fighting against that as well—so I can move out from a place of acceptance. This is an open space of Expansion, as opposed to a contracted state of resentment or frustration. Being in alignment with what is, as opposed to what I would like to be.

Then what I want to experience can also come into fruition more gracefully!

Instead of comparing myself to others, I get to take the space to really acknowledge my own uniqueness - the advantages, and the challenges of that. And then recognize what is needed to move forward. My differences and yours bring a wholeness to the world that makes everything possible.

If you are struggling with feelings of being separate or alone with all the division in the US and the world these days, and with the outcomes of our elections, the pandemic isolation and economic uncertainties, you are not alone. It can be such a big help to honor your own experience. To recognize your own unique needs right now. Being alone and craving alone time to reflect and process your experience is JUST as necessary as being in community and connection.

If you are feeling isolated, reach out to someone you love and let them know. They are probably feeling something similar! Express your need to connect with old friends and break through the wall of isolation.

Check in with yourself and see what's really going on so you can come to a place of acceptance and expansion. From there your efforts will come to fruition with much greater ease and flow.

This is resilience.
